I’ve admired Mikaelah, the creator behind @Regular.Reflections since I first discovered her beautiful Instagram in August. In order to highlight other creative uses of the bullet journaling system, I’m honored to offer a peek inside her notebook. Keep reading for an exclusive bullet journal show and tell.
Mikaelah lives on the coast of Australia with her husband and little boy. She’s currently a stay-at-home mom, and serves alongside her husband, the youth pastor, as the children’s pastor. She also helps him with admin work where journaling comes in handy. She’s begun desiginging and selling bullet journals for 2019.
When did you first discover bullet journaling?
Two and a half years ago! I remember picking up my journal and running to the nearest cafe to start my journey.\
How has your bullet journal evolved or changed since you began?
I relied heavily on other accounts (the amazing Kara @bohoberry) to get me through the first few months, but I soon realized it wasn’t my style. By then I gained confidence to try new things and fell in love with the simplicity of journaling.
How would you describe your bullet journaling style?
Minimalistic – I tend to get overwhelmed with color and sketches!
Have you tried any other planner systems?
At the end of most years, I am gifted with a new year’s journal. Because of the excitement, I start using it to plan out my month. But in a short time, I soon realize the lack of flexibility and creativitiy. In saying that, I have purchased a day-per-page diary to track my business side of things.
Who inspires your bullet journal?
Some of my favorites include:
- Kat @booksofnotes
- Ella @bujoella
- Malin @journalbymalin
- @minimal_almanac
- Issi @bu.journal.love
- @nitly.sketching
- Myriam @mimsplanning
- Carla @bujonomy
- Rose @nerdwithnotes
Do you have any advice for first-time bullet journalers?
Don’t go on Instagram! Or if you do, pick one account and be inspired by them. It can get so overwhelming with so many
What are your go-to bullet journal supplies?
My Pilot G-2 0.38 pens are essential (I don’t let anyone touch them!) along with a set of Mildliners and a mini ruler. If I want to add a pop of color, I use the Crayola Supertips – so affordable! I recently bought my second dotted Clairefontaine notebook from Officeworks for less than $20. The pages are incredible!
Supplies:
2 Count 6″ Stainless Steel Ruler
Clairefontaine A5 Thread-Bound Notebook, Dot, Black
What’s your weekly layout look like?
I have gone through so many layouts depending on what my week looks like. If I want to crunch down on my time-management, I love adding time ladders. If I have a small list of to-dos, I add a sapce for journaling my day. Or if my week is overwhelming, I love going to the running task list. Bullet journaling is so flexible!
How do you incorporate goal setting?
So far – poorly! Goal setting has never been my forte; however, this year I’m going to try a Vision Board, followed by a time breakdown. This will cover how I can reach these goals on a monthly, weekly, and daily basis.
What’s one trick you use?
I am not artistically inclined to sketch or doodle, so stamps are a cheat’s way of adding those beautiuflly hand-drawn designs. I found so many for less than $1 on Ebay.
HOw do you incorporate your faith in your bullet journal?
I developed a monthly prayer tracking system which was inspired by my neglected prayer-life. I created four categories: Family, Church, Request, and World. Within each, there are five topics decided at the beginning of the month. For example, the topics within World were government, disasters, our city, youth, and suicidal. We woudl then pray daily for a topic in each category.
How has bullet journaling affected your mindfulness or self-care routine?
Journlaing within itself is a self-care outlet for me. there is something therapueitc about turning a blank page into a pieceof art. I love to take it to cafes and write a letter to God, to my boy, to me.
What does your 2019 set-up look like?
In the past. I’ve allocated each month with its own color; however, this year I want to keep the gray-scale continuous throughout my journal. I will be including a lot of stamping, as well as letters to myself, reviewing the month and season I was in.
